Upcoming in the art world is the annual ArtFest Fort Myers, held downtown from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2. This festival is held to highlight local artists and support small businesses throughout Lee County. Cypress, being a school dedicated to the arts, works hand in hand with the Art fest directors to encourage young artists to put their work on display. Any pieces submitted will be exhibited in the “Art Under 20” tent where the work is then considered for awards and recognition. Senior Jamie Lowery is one of the many who contributed to the submissions from Cypress and she said, “It’s a really good opportunity to get underrated artists a chance to show their work.”
The festival brings together people from all backgrounds and talents. The event includes food trucks, booths, games, and live music for all to enjoy. Many also find the “Publix Run to the Arts” 5k to be a creative way to support the festival.
However, if running is not on the agenda, there is the infamous chalk block, where students come together to create imaginative chalk pieces surrounding a theme. This year will include an array of pieces surrounding the 2025 theme, “Time to Shine”. Many at Cypress participate in the chalk block including junior Emma Corbin who said, “The project started with just Cypress and only recently have other schools joined. It’s really fun, but you should definitely wear sunscreen.“ Over the years students have transformed this competition to be a very social and expanding opportunity for young artists to connect.
As the festival approaches students are gearing up as they prepare for the upcoming events. As Mrs. Petcher and Mrs.Cotton wrap up the finishing touches, they are more than excited to share the amazing work from Cypress Lake. From art pieces, chalk creations, and 5k’s, people from any talent have a place at the 2025 Art Fest Fort Myers.
