Dec. 14 marked the day of Cypress Lake High School’s 2024 homecoming dance, An unusual date for a homecoming dance. Months after the school celebrated its Homecoming week students gathered in the courtyard of the Center for the Arts for a celebration with music, dancing, and a special feature of those elected to the Homecoming court.
Kishlove, a senior at Cypress commented, “It’s my last year here and I had never actually gone to the dance until now, having it in the courtyard was pretty nice.” He added, “The ambience with the rain was cool.” There was widespread praise for the courtyard as the dance’s location, with another student, 9th grader Jaiden saying, “It was really fun being outside.”
The reason the dance is held so late in the year is so that the courtyard can be a viable location. In October it is much too hot outside for formal attire, however this has often been a point of controversy. Results from the survey revealed that 70 percent of students preferred the courtyard to the possibility of having the dance in the gym. Around 65 percent of students rated their satisfaction with the dance’s location as very high. It is safe to say that the students of Cypress Lake are fond of the courtyard. However on the other hand 77 percent of respondents wished for the dance to be during homecoming week as opposed to mid December. As students continue to voice their opinions it will be interesting to see the decision the school makes for further Homecoming dances, as well as what responses a dance held in the gym might garner.
