Each year one of the most treasured traditions in Mr. Dusenberry’s ESE room is the Thanksgiving dinner. The students celebrated together with a feast catered by Glory Days restaurant, complete with turkey, salads, rolls, potatoes, and mac and cheese, with options for everyone.
The students who were interviewed had a wonderful time, each with their own designated placemat at the table. Students who were able shared what they felt thankful for. One student interviewed during the celebration mentioned, “It’s been a good day, the ham and mashed potatoes were really good.” That student mentioned being grateful for their mom, and another commented on the quality of the macaroni.
Another special thing about the dinner is that Mr. Dusenberry’s students are joined by student aides from outside the West Wing, who also enjoyed themselves at the feast. Geira Cameron, a sophomore who decided to help for the day, said of the celebration, “I think it is a good way to make school fun right before break,” appreciating the peaceful and laid-back nature of the event.
Even the teachers were having fun with each other and all the students. Ms. Foy, a paraprofessional in Dusenberry’s room, mentioned she was grateful for her family and great friends, and expressed, “I am happy that our classes are getting to celebrate together.” She also mentioned that she loves seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces as they enjoy the meal.
