The CLHS Marching Band recently had their MPA or musical performance assessment. The MPA is split into two sections, the performance section in which the Marching Band played two songs, and then the sight reading section where the members get a never-before-seen book and have to sight-read the notes. Both sections are judged and given a ranking. The rankings are as follows: fair, good, excellent, and superior. The CLHS Marching Band received straight superiors.
Senior Anna Denoy said of the performance, “I’m super happy with how we did at Marching Band. It was a long day and we performed just before the rain hit so everything ended up working out. We put so much time, effort, and hot practices into our show starting from late August all the way to the beginning of November! Overall, as a senior and a squad leader within the band, it was bittersweet and sad to say goodbye but I was so excited that we got superiors! CLHS Marching Pride and the people within it is a memory I will never forget and I had so much fun at MPA this year.”
“This group is special to me,” said Band Director Randy Webb. “We have graduated 36 seniors the past 2 years and they worked so hard to get where they needed to be! This senior class is smaller but are great leaders and motivated! They earned Superior all 4 years. Their mark will be left here.”
The CLHS Marching Band MPA was a great way to show off their skills and hard work. The musical performance assessment is not just about the rankings, it’s also about pushing yourself to be better and teamwork. And just because football season is over doesn’t mean the Band slows down – they still have Jazz and Concert MPAs to go.
