Cypress Lake’s Panther Theatre Company is proud to present their inaugural play of 2025 – The Play That Goes Wrong.
The production encompasses a unique concept, incorporating classic elements of murder mystery with the novel idea of thespians surviving through an increasingly calamitous show. Utilizing the idea of a play within a play, the story follows a group of actors wholly unprepared for the events about to unfold during their opening night. As they are comically dragged through the evening by the notion of “The show must go on!”, more and more chaos surrounds them at every turn. With its clever usage and presentation of slapstick, word-based, and more types of humor, the comedy has gathered numerous awards and rave reviews over its many runs, providing much promise as to how it will be interpreted by Cypress talent.
The spectacle’s small, yet exceptionally eccentric cast of characters only add to the progressively growing mayhem and fun of the plot. One of the eight cast members, senior Katie Ireland, takes on the role of Robert, a passionate perfectionist seeking control, yet still with a well-meaning heart.
“This is the most technically difficult production we’ve done at Cypress,” Ireland commented. “There’s lots of mechanics that we have to ensure go very right to make sure the show can go wrong. It’s awesome, and there’s crazy stunts you won’t get to see if you don’t show up!”
Playing the character Max, senior William Urban also encourages students to come to the show. “I love how we’re having fun on stage, and it’s just a good laugh both for us as performers and the audience.”
The Play That Goes Wrong promises hilarity and an excellent time to all who attend! Come see the production in the Center’s Blackbox theater, running from February 20-23.
