America’s pop princess just did the collab of the decade. Following her internet smash hit of “Espresso,” her song on her sixth studio album Short N’ Sweet, Carpenter collabed with Boston-born Dunkin’ Donuts to promote their new Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso.
The drink launched on Dec. 31, 2024, and obviously I went to get it right away for research purposes.
First a couple of prerequisites: I will say I’m a little disappointed because I saw that the drink came with kiss mark stickers, but when I went early in the morning they didn’t have any. I think it’s also important to note that Dunkin’ is known for being hit or miss. I guess I was lucky because when I went the first time, the drink was so delicious. I will say, immediately after taking a sip, I was shocked at how sweet it was, but after I mixed it around, it balanced out.
The drink was a true vanilla with a little bit of a toffee flavor from the brown sugar. I did miss the cinnamon that Starbucks adds to their version but all in all it was a great drink. When I went to get it a second time however, it was very bitter. There was barely any milk making it an unappetizing color and I was getting none of the flavors from before.
Other students seem to feel the same. Sabrina fan Jianna Zaliagiris was extremely disappointed and thought it was “extremely bitter and had no flavor. It was so awful I couldn’t even finish it.”
Sophia Westland, another fan of Carpenter’s, said, “The drink is a little too sweet for me but that’s because of the brown sugar, which is clearly in the name. However, it is not as sweet as other drinks I have tried at Dunkin. Almost perfectly in the middle. While it is not perfect because of how sweet it is, I would order it again.”
Other students thought the drink was too expensive for Dunkin and felt as though they jacked up the price since a celebrity was promoting it. But let it be clear, this drink is a permanent menu item by Dunkin’ that Sabrina is promoting. What did you think of the drink?
