JROTC Drone Teams Fly High in Competition at ERAU
On Dec. 14, The Cypress Lake JROTC Drone Teams traveled to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University at Daytona Beach to compete in the 1st Annual “Battle of the Beach” Aerial Drone Competition alongside Ida Baker and Mariner. The teams competed in numerous flight contests, which consisted of flying drones in various missions. Our CLHS Drone teams placed in the Top five in the missions categories while also placing first in Teamwork and Communications Missions, Tournament Champions, and the Judges’ Award.
The JROTC Drone Teams specializes in learning about drones, flight principles, programming, teamwork, and communication skills needed to understand and work in drone-related workforces.

Jardas Flag Changing Ceremony
On Jan. 14, Cypress Lake High School held its annual Jardas Flag Changing Ceremony at the memorial near the Center for the Arts. The Ceremony is held every year in honor of former JROTC Cadet and Marine Thomas Jardas, who perished in a helicopter crash. Local community members, including Jardas’s family, watched as JROTC cadets lowered the flag and replaced it with a new one. After the ceremony, Mr. Adam Kurtz announced the Tommy Jardas memorial scholarship recipient.
JROTC Robotics Team Advances to State Competition
On Jan. 24, the JROTC “Panther Force” Robotics team competed in the District Robotics Tournament at Riverdale High School, contesting against other schools. With a VEX Robotics Award and the opportunity to advance to the State Robotics Competition on the line, the Robotics team performed exceptionally well and won in many events and categories in the competition, including the Design Award, the Innovation Award, Skills Champion and Tournament Champion. The team will participate in the State Competition at the University of South Florida this February and have the chance to progress to the World Competitions.
The JROTC Panther Force Robotics team focuses on constructing, programming, and coding their robots and operating them in a set game, promoting STEM education, innovation, problem-solving, and engineering skills.
