After three seasons of many mixed emotions, Conrad Fisher and Isabel Conklin finally ended up together, leaving team Conrad feeling victorious. Throughout the last season, many scenes stood out to fans. Fans who were previously team Jeremiah converted them to a different opinion. Through all of these moments, one thing stayed consistent. Conrad’s persistent patience for Belly. She took her time and made some bad choices, but in Paris, chasing after him while “Out of the Woods” by Taylor Swift played, it became clear that she finally made the right decision.
Although Team Conrad fans are ecstatic that the couple ended up together in the end, lots of other decisions in the production of the show left fans with mixed feelings. It’s no secret to fans that Jenny Han made major changes to the show from the books that people grew up on, Some of the biggest ones being the relationship of Staylor (Steven and Taylor) But other ones include the finale of the show leaving fans missing the wedding between Conrad and Belly like there was in the books. Overall, some aspects of the show that are different from the books are loved by fans, but others are found unnecessary, disappointing, or cringy.
Trevor Gluski, a Junior here at Cypress agrees with saying that “This season the show was ruined. The acting seemed cheaper and the overall storyline was not only portrayed differently than the book but was just simply cringy.”
Other fans, like sophomore Karli Swedberg, had mixed feelings towards the show. “I LOVED the ending but I need more, like I wanna see Conrad and Belly get married and live in possibly the beach house and their kids, etc.”
Or Juliette Olesen who disagrees with Belly’s choices throughout the series entirely. “I don’t like Belly anymore. I feel like she has no self respect, and both the boys are dumb. They need to branch out and find other people.”
Our View
Lots of fans either started the season or ended the season feeling upset with Belly’s choices. Following the death of the Fisher brothers’ mother Sussanah, the last thing they needed was fighting and little contact. It felt like Belly was coming in between a family with her lack of decisiveness between which brother she wanted to pursue a relationship with. The first two seasons were cute summer flings but leaving your fiance on your wedding day to go be with his brother? Low blow. Fans also miss the overall coastal aesthetic of the show that was missing this season. Although all the characters are now out of high school, some even out of college, the thing that hooked audiences and gave the show its summer ritual charm, was the very thing we didn’t see much of this season.
But, we can’t be too sad because Isabel Conklin’s story isn’t done. Although the show wrapped up with no loose ends left behind, Jenny Han announced The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie coming out late 2025 leaving many fans hopeful that we can finally after three seasons see Conrad’s and Belly’s relationship.
