Our Cypress Lake MUN (Model United Nations) has recently been launched into action and competed against a variety of schools. In MUN, students represent other nations in a program modeled on our real United Nations Pact. The teammates roleplay as UN delegates and debate about global issues to develop skills like public speaking, diplomacy, and problem-solving.
The new year has brought a lot of new members to the club. A
nd many of them got their first taste of competition at this year’s VikingMUNC held at Bishop Verot High School. Freshman, Reagan Gould, took part in their first competition by participating in a special committee known as a crisis room. In a crisis room the situation delegates need to manage is constantly updating, in this specific room Gould represented Glaucus, a character from the story of the Trojan war on which the room was based. Also in the Trojan war room, Junior, Carter Gurule and Senior, Valeska Perez placed in the top 3.

Students engaged in fierce debate at VikingMUNC and several of our members won awards ranging from verbal commendation to outstanding delegate, a title given to the second place member of a room. Freshman Danylo Zaenanreurm described the competition as, “lots of fun” and a “good learning experience.”
MUN is a great opportunity for all students at Cypress is sponsored my Mrs. Stutz and meetings occur every friday from 2 pm until 3 pm.
