On October 16, the CHLS Unified Bowling team ended their season with a hard-fought battle at regionals. This year’s team worked well together to create an unforgettable experience with a great demonstration of talent, determination, and unity. Coach Kyle Tavares said, “It was an amazing opportunity for the student athletes to experience a competition in Orlando. They were able to show amazing sportsmanship and pride for Cypress Lake and I couldn’t be more proud to have coached them.”
Unified Sports is an inclusive program run by the Special Olympics that brings teammates with and without disabilities together on the same sports team. CHLS currently offers Unified Basketball, Soccer, Bowling and Track and may add Flag Football to the roster. The aim of Unified Sports is to promote friendship and acceptance through a shared love of sports and having a fun and enjoyable time.
Senior Brigitte Maillakakis said, “Unified bowling is something that’s really important to me and I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to do so. Being able to connect with these kids and like make a difference in something so simple and like make a difference in something so simple as bowling on the team it really makes me happy and It’s something that I’m really passionate about.”
