Teeing it up for the first time Aug. 12 the Cypress Lake High School men’s golf team was not looking to waste time. Due to weather constraints the team has only four matches on record this year, however the team’s success is undeniable. With three wins, one loss, and one tie, Cypress Lake golf has been tearing up the course.
Coach Chris Beisner commented, “The season has been really fun for me because I have such good kids.” He also mentioned that he is looking forward to two of his golfers taking a shot at the state playoffs, specifically his number two player, Senior Trevor Whiteside-Hamilton. “I think if the current number two, Trevor, gets hot he could go far.” The team’s number one golfer, Senior Jaime Lowry, qualified for state playoffs last year and only fell a few strokes short.
One of the big matches Panther Golf fans look forward to each year is against Fort Myers High School. The teams have met once this year in a close fight with our experienced players taking an early lead, but unfortunately the Green Wave made it up on the back end with some of their new players taking ours down.
The teams are scheduled to meet up again later in the season as the weather permits, and Trevor Whiteside-Hamilton is looking forward to the re-match. “We do have some inexperienced players, but they are improving every day,” he said.
Students who wish to follow the matches should keep an eye on Panther Four News every day for updates on when matches occur and their results.
