On September 19, “Storm In the Barn,” the first show of the season, opened in the Black Box. The set was an abstract wagon the actors would take apart and put together again to make different sets throughout the show. A haunted Barn, A house, a shop, and more.
Senior Elise Pignotti plays a ten year old boy living through the Kansas Dust Bowl. With no water, his older sister gets sick, crops won’t grow, and it seems like his family is falling apart.
“It’s always exciting to start the theater season off with a darker show,” said Pignotti. “We did the same thing last year and it really hit. I am so proud of where we have come with this show, and it’s especially sacred for me because it is my first show of senior year, and my first lead role. ‘The Storm In The Barn’ is genuinely one of the best shows I’ve been in.”
The show also included so much student involvement. Student Director Bennett Willcoxson, Costume Designer Samantha Boddicker, Sound Designer Sarah Velencia, and Lighting Designer Evelin Rienzo worked together to create a dazzling show that really captured the late 1930s aesthetic.
On October 4, the Panther Theatre Company plans to take the show to the one-act festival, part of the Southwest Florida Theatrical Society, better known as SWFTS. After returning a 100% Superior Troupe at least year’s SWIFTS, expectations and hopes are high. With five more productions left in the season, two variety shows, and a cabaret fundraiser, you won’t want to miss an opportunity to see them in action.
