As most people know it was the holiday season, and in celebration of the season the Cypress Lake dance department performed their annual Nutcracker performance, though this time with a twist. On December 11th and 12th at 7 p.m., instead of simply the Nutcracker, they showcased the Florida Nutcracker and several fall-season pieces.
The Florida Nutcracker was Sarah Thornburg’s own spin on the original Nutcracker. Instead of Clara, the story follows Marie as she interacts with a variety of Florida-inspired characters to celebrate the holidays Florida-style. The performance featured pieces like Hurricane, Festival of Lights, and Waltz of the Orange Blossoms featuring Dew Drop to name a few.
After the Nutcracker there was a brief intermission followed by the department’s fall performance, including several class pieces choreographed by Nancy Burnham and a few pieces choreographed by guest choreographers.
Overall, the Nutcracker and Fall Concert was a beautiful performance that showcased the talent of Cypress’s dancers and helped get the community into the holiday spirit.
