From new clubs to new friends, Cypress’s programs are expanding before our eyes. This week The Panther Post is featuring two of those new clubs: PAWS for Compassion and HOSA.
PAWS for Compassion, started by sophomore Joan Williams, is a great club for people who love animals, enjoy helping out in the community, and want to stay plugged into school activities. Also, if you are 16 and need service hours this is a fun and easy way to get some. They currently support the Lee County Shelter and Gulf Coast Humane Society by hosting food drives to gather beds, toys, and other supplies for their sweet pups.
HOSA-Future Professionals (Health Occupations Students of America) is another new club which was started by freshman John Harris. This club is perfect for people who see a future in healthcare or STEM, have a competitive mindset, and are dedicated to learning. John emphasized that being in HOSA is not easy; it takes a certain amount of dedication and creativity to achieve success. Their first competition is in 2 months, yet they hope to send some students to states or even nationals in their first year. From persuasive writing to pathophysiology, there are up to 60 different events, and the Cypress team will be competing against other well established clubs in our area like Dunbar and Fort Myers, so moving up in competition would be a huge accomplishment for not only our HOSA chapter but for Cypress overall.
Students are very excited for these new chapters for our school and to see them grow. With the strong and dedicated students we have there is no doubt that our clubs will succeed.
