On Monday October 20th, the long awaited homecoming week will begin. With the week quickly approaching, the SGA class officers and representatives have been working hard in and outside of school to come up with the dress up days, class themes, and putting together the assigned class hallway decorations. Over the span of homecoming week, there are many competitions between the Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. This time of year becomes very competitive among the grade levels through the competitions for best hallway decorations, class banners, and school spirit! Every year CLHS students look forward to the announcement of the class themes and this year didn’t disappoint. The themes for this year’s homecoming decorating are movie franchises; Freshmen- Jurassic Park, Sophomore- Star Wars, Juniors- Marvel, Seniors- Harry Potter.
The dress up days for this years homecoming week are; Monday, October 20th- “Marvel”our Monday- Dress to show off your favorite PJs; Tuesday, October 21st- Star Wars Tuesday- Dress in black or white attire; Wednesday, October 22nd- Jurassic Park Wednesday- Dress like a tourist; Thursday, October 23rd- Harry Potter House Day- Wear the color that represents YOUR house; and finally, Friday, October 24th- FRI-YAY! Wear PURPLE to show your school spirit for the Pep Rally!!
Along with the dress up days, competitions, and hallway decorating, there are other aspects of the week that are highly anticipated among our students. On Wednesday, October 22nd, the school holds the annual Powder Puff and Buff Puff games here at school from 6-8pm. Powder Puff is when Junior and Senior girls sign up to play a football game against each other, and Junior and Senior boys sign up to be the cheerleaders of the game. This game will be held on the football field! Buff Puff is where boys of all the classes sign up to be part of a volleyball tournament. These matches will be held in the gym! Additionally, later in the week on Friday, October 24th, our school holds the homecoming pep rally and at night the homecoming football game!!
Sophomore Katie Cook has been the sophomore class treasurer for the last two school years and she “loves being a part of decorating, arranging all the decorations, and being able to help her fellow students make memories. I am beyond excited for this year’s themes and I can’t wait for the vision to come alive.”
All the class officers and representatives have been working together non-stop since the beginning of the school year, discussing all the possibilities for the themes. The hardest part of the job is thinking about the school’s larger population, because it is not possible to please every student even though they try their hardest. Every year there are students that are displeased with the choice that SGA has come to but in the end are still pleased with the spirit the school has surrounding the week, and the officers believe this year won’t be any different. The class sponsors are a very large part of why homecoming week happens so smoothly because without their endless support, hours of work, advice, expertise, panther pride, and dedication to the officers and the school, homecoming week would not be what it has become today. SGA sponsor Mrs. Brick loves working with her old students and meeting new ones and working with them to build and create organized plans and thoughts to share with the whole school. The amount of time and dedication being SGA sponsor is all worth it when I get to see the smiles on the kids’ faces when they are enjoying themselves during homecoming week.”
Junior Audrina Westland, the Junior class secretary, says “ I am part of the yearbook staff as well and I have the homecoming week dress up page so I love going through the pictures taken and seeing the people that usually aren’t covered or involved as other people usually are, and see their creativity shine through their outfits.”
