On Sept. 19, Cypress Lake High School hosted their very first college fair. 403 Cypress Lake High School Juniors and Seniors were given the opportunity to meet and talk to a variety of different schools and programs in the gym. According to the students and staff that attended, it was a great success.
In the past, Cypress held smaller events with a few local schools but not until this year were students able to engage with schools from all around the state and country in one place. At the college fair, there were 32 colleges/universities, 5 trade schools, as well as 4 of the 5 military branches. The universities include several prestigious Florida schools, including University of Florida, Florida State University, and University of Miami. Additionally, local colleges like Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida Southwestern State College presented their programs, which appeal to students seeking to stay a little closer to home while pursuing higher education. Beyond just the traditional college route, the fair catered to a diverse range of interests and career paths.
Those who attended appreciated the chance to speak directly with admissions counselors and gain insights into the numerous paths available after high school. Panthers had the opportunity to talk face-to-face to the representatives about topics such as admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and any other questions that they had regarding the programs offered.
Senior Sophia Deiman expressed her positive feedback about her time at the college fair, saying, “Having the college fair at school is something I am extremely grateful for! It is nice to be able to speak with admissions officers one-on-one because getting my questions answered in person definitely helped me with the application processes.”
Junior Lyla Seitz, also had a good time at the college fair. “I enjoyed getting detailed answers to things I wanted to know about certain programs,” Seitz said.
The fair was organized by Mrs. Ranae Atkinson, Cypress’s College and Career Coordinator. She is an invaluable resource to students on all things related to their post-graduation plans, including scholarships.
