The CLHS swim teams dove into their season on the first day of school, Aug. 12. Both men’s and women’s swimmers have competed in seven meets so far this season, including a six-school multi meet. Both teams have nine wins and one loss, a very impressive record.
“Our team has great spirit,” said Coach Jeanne Epps who added that personal records have looked easy for her swimmers and, as the season moves forward, she is excited to watch her team at the regional level and possibly putting up a fight at the state level. Being one of our most successful varsity programs, students are encouraged to take notice and show their support for CLHS swim.
The team held a home meet on Sept. 19 against Gateway Charter in which they saw amazing success. Quinn Mcdonald, a junior, won two events, the 100 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke. The Men’s 200 free relay team, made up of Cameron Simmons, Alex Wilson, Matthew Miller, and Quinn Mcdonald, also took first place. CLHS took first place in every relay even they entered at the Sept. 19 meet. Freshman Neeve Farrell also notched the win in the women’s 200 meter freestyle event. Miriam Hernandez-Kilic, Alaina Skaggs, and Alex Wilson also won their events. The meet was an overall victory for the team.
The spirited Cypress team has high hopes for a strong appearance at the regional meet.
