From Jan. 31 to Feb. 2, Cypress Lake Center of the Arts participated in the annual Art Fest. Visual arts majors submitted their work from the past year to be judged in the ¨Art Under 20¨ tent. Outstanding results came from this, as three students were recognized for their work. Sophomore Kiabeth Leyton came in 2nd place and Junior Faith Mcleary came in 3rd in the painting category. Senior Veronica Parker won the Equity award for her charcoal piece. Visual arts teacher Mrs. Petcher said of the students, “I am so proud of everyone who participated, ribbons or not, these artists put their all into their work and it shows.”
Not only did students achieve in the “Art Under 20” tent, Cypress took the lead in the second attraction at Art fest, Chalk Block. Emma Corbin, Elana Gorny, and Baylee Bibbee were recognized as second place winners for their chalk piece. During this live art showcase, students spend six and a half hours working chalk to fit a given theme. This year the pieces reflected the theme “Time to shine.” When asked about this live art experience, Corbin said, “If you can withstand the heat, it is really fun to work with friends and cooperate with other teams.”
The 2025 Art fest was fruitful for the Cypress Panthers who participated, however, they aren’t done yet. The senior show is coming up and the recognized seniors are preparing for their spotlight gallery. This event is scheduled for Feb. 24 in the Gallery from 5:30-7 p.m. All are encouraged to attend this event to celebrate the hard work of this year’s seniors.
