CLHS Tennis Teams Have Big Ace Energy

Game-set-match! The boys and girls tennis teams have been faced with new challenges this season. After the previous coach retired, Stephanie Perkinson stepped up to the courts to help with new skills and lead them through upcoming matches. So far, the team has seen great success out of this new leadership change. Their match against Mariner on Feb. 11 had a final score of 5-2 and the more recent win against Island coast ended with a soaring 7-0.

The girls team in particular has grown exponentially from past seasons. Six girls joined this year, increasing the team by more than double. There are new ideas and new talent on the court that are unmatched. Freshman Madelyn Stewart said,”I’m starting this sport for the first
time this year as a freshman and so far it has been really fun.”

Although there are new faces, returning athletes are excited about upcoming matches. Junior Catelyn Holcomb said,”This is my third year playing and I feel like a lot about the team has changed. The program has gotten so much bigger and it’s really exciting!” She’s definitely not the only one. Many of the other upperclassmen are excited to see the program get so popular.

The boys team has also been taking on new athletes. Senior Andy Ngo said, “I’ve never really played tennis before but I’m learning as I go.” This being the first year Andy has played tennis, the team is ready to see him grow and get better. All of Cypress is watching and waiting for this team to continue with their season and succeed further as spring goes on.
