Most people tend to lean toward the people they click with the most. While the athletes have sports and the artists have the Center, the rest of the student body find their people in clubs. Mr. Fetterhoff looked around and saw a need for a club where students could decompress and relax and play games, so he and other students decided that they would meet on Fridays and do just that. “It was more of an organic thing. As I started teaching a game design class, I realized we needed more time for the extracurriculars, and it just kind of happened,” said Fetterhoff. Though its original purpose was simply to play games, it has now turned into a form of camaraderie.
Though Fetterhoff is the founder, Mr. Glover also plays a volunteer role. Inspired by some of his students, he decided to create a Dungeons & Dragons campaign for his students and joined forces with Fetterhoff.
As for the students, they all agree that this is a welcoming environment, with several games to play and different people to interact with. For them, it is something to look forward to at the end of the week and to simply chill.
Many of the students have been part of this club for quite some time now. Many, such as Wyatt Wilcoxson, CJ and Kayden Couse, and John Clark, have been a part of the club for two or three years. As for the underclassmen, like Simon Pagliuca and Oliver Knorr, they plan on being club members for as long as they can.
If you’re interested in joining, make sure to heed Mr. Fetterhoff’s warning: “Please don’t show up the day of the club and expect to stay. Please come see me beforehand; you need a permission slip, and we leave at four o’clock.”
With the variety of games that Fetterhoff has, there’s something for everyone. As Mr. Glover likes to say, “Just roll with it.”
