On Saturday, the Cypress Lake Marching Band took the field at Fort Myers High School for this year’s Musical Performance Assessment (MPA), joining nearly every marching band in Lee County for a full day of competition. The event began at 11:00 AM and lasted until 7:00 PM, with each band given only 15 minutes to perform and completely clear the field — no second chances and no extra time.
Despite the time crunch, Cypress delivered an unforgettable performance that reflected months of dedication, and creativity. This year’s show paid tribute to artists Paul McCartney and John Lennon, featuring beloved classics like “Live and Let Die,” “Yesterday,” and “Magical Mystery Tour.”
In addition to the music, the band introduced several new elements to their performance this season — including a large tarp, guitars, and rifles — adding new layers of depth and excitement to their routine. These additions challenged both the musicians and color guard to bring something new and fresh to the field.
Rehearsals under the sun, hours of coordination, and teamwork all led up to this moment — and the results spoke for themselves. When the final scores were announced, Cypress proudly received a superior rating, a recognition of their hard work and growth throughout the season.
Band Director Randy Webb said of the performance, and the season, “The band has overcome so much this year. No practice area, having to practice differently, managing equipment and transporting 2 different sets of equipment to away football games. They are resilient, disciplined, and love to overachieve. Super proud of them. We are one of only two groups that received straight superiors.”
For the Cypress Lake Marching Band, MBA wasn’t just a competition — it was a celebration of how far they’ve come and what’s still ahead.
