On Friday April 4, students from Cypress represented the arts program by participating in a live art display. These students painted, sketched and chiseled away at different pieces of art in real time for all to see. The artworks consisted of pets, self portraits and mini pieces, all showcasing the talented students that make up the Visual Arts Department. The oohs and ahhs of the crowd were consistent throughout the night as viewers had the chance to see them working up close.
All of the students were a part of the Center for the Arts and partook in this event to show off their phenomenal skills in visual arts. Junior Erica Perez says, “This was an amazing experience and really is so fun to be a part of.” She has done this type of project before and urges the younger classes to take the time to go to the event.
Art walk is a bi-monthy collection of local artists in downtown Fort Myers. All seven of the Panthers who attended agree that they would do a presentation like this again and urge others to join. Any visual arts center student has the ability to put themselves and their work out there.
Elena Gorny says, “This is such a good chance for people to see your art and the atmosphere of the event is really fun. There is lots of live music and people chatting to you as you work.” This is her first year at art walk and agrees with the collective that she will be returning next year. This annual event is one that many students at Cypress look forward to. Whether or not they are in the center for visual arts, this is a fun, family-friendly event that the entire city is able to enjoy.
